Hilary Wheeler is a queer, Chinese-Canadian, mixed-race actor, musician, and playwright. She is a 2021 graduate from the acting program at the National Theatre School of Canada where her love for the creation of innovative new work and the re-imagination of classical text bloomed. Soon after graduating she discovered a deep passion for speaking in a range of silly voices, and has since trained in voice acting for animation with Jake Bazel. Hilary has performed as an actor and a musician from coast to coast of the country with companies such as Geordie Theatre, Corpus Dance Projects, Just For Laughs, WeeFestival, and Theatre SKAM.

As a writer Hilary thrives in exploring stories through comedy, the integration of music, and pushing the boundaries of how we create and experience theatre. She unashamedly imbeds her personal experience into her writing, which brought about the creation of her interactive solo show, The List. Hilary is always striving to create more opportunities for her community, which sparked the creation of Ye Xian: A Musical Retelling in collaboration with Heeyun Park.

For Hilary, performance and creation is centered in heart. She seeks to empower her collaborators, community, and audience with belly laughs and sniffly tears by taking them on a ride on her train of thought run by theatre magic, goofy fun, and the cold hard truth. Additionally, she is a lover of spontaneity, so much so that she once stepped into performing a solo show on two days notice. So if you need a last minute replacement, you know a girl.

Outside of her work in the arts she is an enjoyer of film photography, west coast mountains, and snacks.
